How many hours a year do you spend travelling by air on average? Here are some flight durations as a guide:
A single flight from Frankfurt (without return flight)
- to Berlin about 1 hour
- to Palma de Mallorca (Balearic Islands) about 2 hours
- to Antalya (Turkey) approx. 3,5 hours
- to New York (USA) approx. 9 hours or
- to Australia 20 - 22 hours.

Here you have the option to enter all flights individually. For a simple calculation, you only need the departure and destination airports, the rest is calculated automatically. However, you can also enter more detailed information. The booking class in particular has a major impact on how great an effect your flight has on the climate.


Result

The carbon footprint is calculated from the combustion of fuels and the upstream processes. For air travel, the additional greenhouse effect caused by so-called non-CO2 effects such as water vapour and cirrus clouds is also taken into account with a factor of 3.
You can offset your air travel, i.e. the emissions caused by air travel are compensated elsewhere by climate protection projects. The Carbon Calculator evaluates this as a carbon handprint.

Personal changes in the next 5 years are reflected in your short term scenario.

Medium-term

A more climate-friendly society and your personal changes then lead to a medium-term scenario covering the next 10 to 15 years.

Your acceptance of long-term climate protection measures and the corresponding policies then lead to a projected German average value for the year 2050.
