Step 8 from 8

My Carbon Footprint

Your personal carbon footprint consists of your personal carbon emissions and your personal carbon handprint.

The personal carbon footprint shows you how many tonnes of greenhouse gases are emitted as a result of your current lifestyle. It also takes into account greenhouse gases generated by importing goods and services from abroad. Therefore, a direct comparison with the values from the national, purely territorial greenhouse gas emissions is not possible.

In addition to CO2, the greenhouse gases methane and nitrous oxide are taken into account, which are converted into CO2 equivalents (CO2e) with the corresponding climate impact. The additional climate impact of flying is also taken into account (so-called non-CO2 effects such as cirrus clouds).

The carbon footprint does not indicate which GHG emissions can be directly influenced by you. This always depends on the individual case (home, income, social environment, ...).

The CO2 handprint provides an initial indication of the extent to which you have initiated CO2 savings for others. As it follows a different calculation logic, it cannot be directly offset against the carbon footprint.
