Housing

House / flat

Here, the CO2 emissions for the construction and maintenance of the house you live in are estimated. This is based on average reference houses. The value is then:

  • distributed over 50 years ("amortised")
  • scaled according to the living space
  • divided by the number of residents.
The CO2 emissions for housing and electricity are automatically divided by the number of people in the household by the calculator.
m2

For orientation, the average living space in Germany:

  • Single-person household: 73 m²
  • Two-person household: 103 m²
  • Three-person household: 114 m²
  • Four- and multi-person household: 129 m²

Heating

The emission factors stored here take into account the emissions from the upstream emissions (e.g. production costs for wind turbines or PV systems, transport losses for natural gas) for both fossil and renewable energies.

Inversely, the CO2 emissions generated directly during combustion are also reported for wood fuels. Please refer to our UBA FAQ and the factsheet "Ansatz zur Neubewertung von CO2-Emissionen aus der Holzverbrennung" (German only).

/Year
You can find the annual consumption in your utility bill or on the annual statement from your energy supplier. If you do not have this at hand, you can also use our estimation tool directly here.
