\"The offer achieves a high level of accessibility. Almost all test steps are fulfilled and there are only minor limitations. The SVG graphics are hidden for screen reader users. However, the result values are available in close proximity and largely in full text form (result tables).\"

The remaining limitations will be removed in an upcoming version.

Report barriers and contact

We endeavour to make our web application accessible to all interested parties. However, if you notice a barrier, please let us know. Please send us an e-mail to barrierefrei@co2-rechner.de.

Instructions for the Carbon Calculator for individuals in plain language

About this website

People produce a lot of waste every day. It is in nature and also in the air. Part of the waste in the air is CO2. Some people are responsible for more and some for less CO2. The Carbon Calculator calculates how much CO2 you are responsible for.

What is CO2?

The air consists of several substances. One of them is called CO2. CO2 is also known as carbon dioxide. How CO2 is produced determines how harmful it is.

How is CO2 formed?

Normal CO2 is produced when I breathe, for example. Harmful CO2 is produced when something burns. Particularly harmful CO2 is produced when I burn coal or oil. The CO2 is then in our air.

What does CO2 do?

With more CO2 in the air, the earth gets warmer. It's like a pane of glass in a greenhouse. The sun shines through the glass into the greenhouse and heats it up. The pane of glass keeps the heat in the greenhouse, so it gets warmer and warmer.

Why is there too much CO2?

In recent years, more and more CO2 has been produced on Earth because we burn a lot of oil, gas and coal. The oil, natural gas and coal were formed on Earth over many thousands of years. We are now burning too much of it in a very short amount of time.

What are CO2 emissions?

CO2 in the air is also called CO2 emissions. CO2 emissions are almost always produced when we burn something. However, CO2 emissions are also created to produce the things we buy.

What does the Carbon Calculator do?

The Carbon Calculator calculates how much CO2 you produce. To do this, you enter information about yourself. You can then see how much CO2 you produce in a year.

What information does the Carbon Calculator need from you?

Information about housing:

For example: how much and with what do you heat?

Information on the topic of electricity:

For example: what kind of electricity do you use and how much?

Information on the topic of transportation & travel:

For example: do you travel by bus, car or bicycle?

Information on the topic of food:

For example: do you eat a lot of meat or no meat at all, where does your food come from?

Information on the topic of miscellaneous consumption:

Consumption is another word for shopping.

For example: how much do you buy? What things do you buy? How much money do you spend on your purchases?

What result does the Carbon Calculator calculate?

The Carbon Calculator calculates how much CO2 you generate in a year.

What is the result?

The Carbon Calculator also shows you how much CO2 a person in Germany normally produces in a year.

So you can see whether you produce a lot or a little CO2.

What can you find on this website?

On the website you will find various sections with headings. These are menu items. You can click on these menu items. This will take you directly to the information.

The menu items are:

My CO2 Quick Check

If you click on "My CO2 Quick Check", you can answer a few important questions. The Carbon Calculator uses your answers to calculate how much CO2 you generate in a year. Because you have only answered a few questions, the result is not exact. But it is very quick.

My Carbon Footprint2

If you click on "My Carbon Footprint", you can answer many questions. The Carbon Calculator uses your answers to calculate how much CO2 you generate in a year. It takes a little longer to answer all the questions. However, the result is much more accurate than the Carbon Footprint in the Quick Check.

My Climate Policies

If you click on "My Climate Policies", you can answer questions again. You can see how politics is changing the climate. You can say whether you think rules are good. Then you can see how much CO2 we will all produce in the future and whether this is good for the climate.

Declaration on accessibility

What is the accessibility statement

?

The Carbon Calculator should be usable for everyone. Even for people who have no or poor eyesight. Even for people who can't hear or have difficulty hearing. Also for people who have problems with difficult texts. Problems with a website are also called "barriers". This explanation explains what barriers there are in the Carbon Calculator.

What are the barriers on the Carbon Calculator website

?

One barrier is having the website read aloud to you. The programme for reading aloud may have problems reading the website aloud. Words in other languages are sometimes pronounced incorrectly.

If you have any problems, please contact us. We will then help.
